Wood Carving tool brands are vast - some with better grades of steel then others. - Regardless of what you buy , your going to have to care for your tools, and yes it takes time to clean and hone tools.
Look, it is part of wood working, I enjoy cleaning up old tools I find and using them. Simply put, a real love for the hobby or business - which ever your doing - requires hard work and dedication , to some of us it is a passion - a labor of love - I do not consider it work, but my lifes work.
I'm very happy in what I do, not rich, and never intended to be, you can have everything money can buy - and what you think is the best of everything - it does not make you a artist or wood worker - in reality all money does is make you a very shallow person.Yes, money helps pay the bills, keep the lights on so to speck.
The joy comes from taking a old log and building something with it - Watching the joy it brings to a childs face is priceless - Simple toys made from wood. Even watching the look on a persons face when you bring their grandmothers cuckoo clock back to life - you gave that wood life and purpose, it's a pretty cool feeling that money can't buy
It matters little what you build or what skills you possess. That is the beauty of wood working. There is something for everyone, a chair , table, desk and a simple toolbox to house your tools, and yes, even a work bench. Someday you might even find yourself learning how to make your own tools, I do at times
